What should I name my music magazine?

FINISHED!!!

I have completed my music magazine along with the evaluation so this will be my last post! Bye Blogger :)

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK

I was originally going to post my audience feedback as a video but due to technological problems I have not been able to do that, so will just post what Nelly and Ellen, two girls who are in the range of my target audience- said to me.

Nelly: "I like the front cover because the text stands out and the main image is bright and vibrant; you can really see the sun on her face making the picture look fresh. The whole layout of the front cover looks professional, like a magazine that you would actually buy in shops! With the font of the price being so big it may put people off, as traditionally the price is quite small on magazines. However it may benefit the readers as they will find the price quickly if they are in a rush. I like how the contents page is spread out and not too cluttered so it's easy to find the right page numbers quickly, but I think the editors letter is a bit too spaced out as the box doesn't need to be that big to fit the text and you could have used that extra room for something else. I love the double page spread image! Putting the main picture of Beth as the background as well is really effective and makes it look professional."

Ellen: "The front cover really stands out and would definitely catch my eye on the shelf of a shop. I like the 'GiveMeMusic' font and I think it's a good name for the magazine. The free JLS poster is a clever way too reel in readers as well by offering a freebie so it was a good idea to add that in on the cover where everyone can see it. I also like how you've put in a smaller version of 'GiveMeMusic' on the top of the contents page because it's a good branding technique to remind the audience what they're reading. The double page spread looks good because you've included a quote of "I've proved myself to the bullies." which is an effective way of showing what's included in the interview. However the text is slightly difficult to read."

FINAL PAGES!

Contents page-final draft?

This is the improves draft of my contents page. I have decided to not use any if the pictures I took of Beth yesterday, because I prefer the one with the camera.

Contents page- added images

I have decided to take a few more pictures of Beth in order to have her in my contents page, applying makeup so it goes with the themes of the magazine. Here are a few that I have narrowed down, but I already know what one I will use. I will replace it with the picture of Beth with the camera. I will then use the image at the very bottom, of me at a fashion show in order to link it in with the fashion side of the magazine.

Contents Draft 2: RE-DONE

I was not happy with my original contents page because it looked slightly unprofessional and I didn't like the layout so I have started from scratch and completley re-did it and this is my first draft of it.

I plan to take a few more pictures over the weekend in order to add in one more above 'On The Cover...' to fill the page up a bit. It maybe of makeup or something along those lines. Please comment any improvments.

This is the first draft of my double page spread :) Please comment any suggestions and improvements.

Double Page Spread Interview Questions

Beth Miller, an 18 year old girl from a small town with a huge talent answers our questions in her first exclusive interview since winning the X-factor! She talks to us about her family, love life and future plans after becoming a singing sensation…
Hi Beth, nice to see you! What’s life been like since you won the X-Factor?
“It’s been an amazing experience. It’s weird how I get noticed whenever I go out now, people are always asking for autographs and pictures, it’s such a shock! My life’s really busy at the moment but I’m loving every second of it.”
You’re only 18, so it must be such a change to go from school to this hectic lifestyle! What do your friends and family think of it?
“They’re really supportive and are excited for me. They understand that I am always very busy and have to travel a lot and I’m so thankful that they’re all here for me! I obviously try and spend as much time as I can with them, I can’t be away from my friends and family for too long! They also keep me grounded. I’ll never turn into a diva.”
You’ve had quite a lot of male attention recently haven’t you Beth!
“It’s such a surprise to be constantly told that I’m attractive because I was always insecure about my looks. At the start of secondary school I was bullied because I was a bit chubby and had wonky teeth!  I hope other young girls like me realise that everyone has something that they don’t like about their body and they just have to learn to accept themselves because everyone’s different!”
Have any pop singers inspired you to make use of your talents and follow your dreams?
“Jessie J is my inspiration. I’ve always been a fan of hers from day 1 and I felt that her song Who’s Laughing Now related to me and really made me feel proud of my success. I’ve proved myself to the bullies. I was so happy when I met her in the X-Factor and got to perform with her, I was star struck!”
You’re going on the X-Factor tour soon, are you excited about travelling round the country and performing with your fellow finalists?
“I can’t wait to be reunited with all of them! During the whole process, from the auditions to the finals, I made some really good friends and became close with a lot of them! I know we’re all going to keep in touch. But I will miss my family and dogs, BoBo and Toby. I’ll make sure I talk to my family and friends everyday on tour it’s hard being away from them!”
Speaking of getting close with others, there’s been rumours that you got a bit ‘close’ with fellow finalist Marvin in the X-Factor house! What’s the truth behind that?
(Beth laughs and blushes) “There’s no truth behind that at all, really! Me and Marvin were just really good friends and got on really well. We were both struggling to cope with being away from our homes for so long, as we both come from small towns so could help each other out.  There is no romance on the cards for us at the moment!”
That’s what they all say! You said you were from a small, countryside town. Any plans to move to London?
“I love being at home with my family, it’s my favourite place! I’m an outdoorsy girl so I love nature and going on walks in the local fields with my dogs. It’s getting really hectic at the moment so when I’m not on tour I plan to move to somewhere more accessible because I’m always on the road… not too far away from home though! I really love London, I’m obviously up there quite a lot and even though I love the country side it’s a nice change to be in a big city, especially with all the shops!”

Front Cover: DRAFT 3- Final?

This is potentially my final draft, but I will work on other pages and maybe come back to improve further on the front cover at the end. Feel free to leave any suggestions on final tweaks that it may need!

Layout Results

After considering the feedback from the layout options I have decided to use the following as my front cover, contents and double page spread:

Front Cover

I will use option 1 as my front cover but I will have all of the cover lines on the left side of the page to make it look more busy.

Contents

I have decided to use the third option because it's a bit different from normal contents pages as the main heading is going vertically down the left side of the page and the editors letter is at the top rather than down the side. I want to make GiveMeMusic to stand out and this is one way I can do it.

Double Page Spread

I will use option 1 as my double page spread but may vary in the way I will put the pictures on the left hand page, as I may choose to do a collage of picturs of Beth depending on what ones I prefer.

Experimenting with the image and colours...

I have made the decision to use the font shown below on the front cover draft and will now see what each of the four pictures look like with the font, and three main colours.

I'm thinking the three main colours to be
  • Hot pink
  • Turquoise
  • White/black
but this could easily change depending on the image used.

Please pick which picture you prefer and the font you prefer.  I can put different fonts on different pictures as this is just an experiment. Feel free to make suggestions.

Font Choices!

Please comment on the font that you think would best suit the masthead for my music magazine, taking into consideration the potential front cover images and bearing in mind that the target market is teenage girls, thankyou!

Narrowing It Down...

I have taken into consideration of the practicality of the front cover images in context to text and space for cover stories, and have narrowed it down to four pictures (see below) that I will now experiment with in photoshop with different fonts...

PHOTOSHOOT-example of photos

I have taken a variety of photos of Beth in my chosen location and below are a few of them.. I will of course edit them on photoshop to adjust factors such as lighting. I concentrated mainly on trying to capture an image for my front cover so focused on close ups but there are some long shots and medium shots included that may be used in the contents page or double page spread. I have also interviewed beth, imagining that she has just won The X-factor and have an idea of the main topic of her interview in the double page spread.

PLEASE COMMENT AND LEAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON YOUR PREFERED PICTURES AND SAY WHAT CLOSE UP PICTURE YOU WOULD MOST LIKE TO BE THE FRONT COVER IMAGE, AND ANY OTHER IDEAS FOR THE DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD PICTURE/S. THANKYOU :)
