Internet Research- Circulation Figures

I am conducting some internet research on the readership figures and circualtion figures of various music magazines, such as Q, Mojo, NME and Kerrang! Q and NME are similar to the mainstream style of music that I want to focus my magazine on so I will be looking at these two expecially.

Source of figures and information : http://www.pressgazette.co.uk/story.asp?sectioncode=1&storycode=47732&c=1

Music (rock) circulation figures for the first half of 2011:
  • Mojo ; Bauer Consumer Media ; 87,262 ; -4.8%

  • Q ; Bauer Consumer Media ; 80,418 ; -10.1%

  • Uncut ; IPC Media Ltd ; 66,004 ; -10.9%

  • Kerrang! ; Bauer Consumer Media ; 43,033 ; -2.2%

  • New Musical Express (NME) ; IPC Media Ltd ; 29,020 ; -14.3%

  • From the figures above, we can see that both Q and NME have decreased in circualtion figures in 2011. Competiting magazines have also gone down in percentage, but only by 2.2% and 4.8%. In order to help readers appeal to this style of magazine, I will make sure I keep gossip and features very up to date and modern, to keep the audience interested. I will hopefully try to differ it slightly from others to gain a unique selling point to bring in readers.

    The website states:

"Despite the drop NME continues to be an exemplar of a modern multiplatform media brand”, serving its audience “via social media, on TV, radio, mobile, through live events and in print and reaches over one million consumers each week”. This is a posisitve sign for the magazine and me as im doing the same style of music magazine.
