The Treatment

The Magazine: GiveMeMusic (GMM)

Target Readership
Give Me Music is a new, modern music magazine targeted at female teens whos favourite genre of music is mainstream pop. The target age of the magazine is 14-17 year olds as this is the generation that are most influenced by pop and mainstream music appeals most to them. A lot of the readers are likely to have part time jobs so they can afford to purchase the magazine as it is only monthly. However, a lot of the parents will buy them the magazine and will be in the C1/C2 socioeconomic grouping so I'm aiming to give it an affordable price so the low economic groupings are able to enjoy it too.
Some of the readers will be aspirers so will look up to the celebrities features in it. That's why the model for GiveMeMusic will be young and fresh and will set a good example to customers. However, the majority of readers are mainstreamers who enjoy media content that isn't challenging and is familiar to them. Young girls are focused on keeping up with fashion trends and buying the most recent gadgets so GiveMeMusic will supply them with tips and tricks on topics like fashion. They will also of course, have a large interest in music, playing instruments, singing themselves or even dancing. The desire to sing is one of the most popular, so the female readers will look up to X factor winners for instance as role models, as they went from having normal lives to being rich and famous. GiveMeMusic readers are the typical teenage girls, who are confident and only want to have fun, but will need advice in some areas such as achieving their dreams, which is where GiveMeMusic comes in, by providing advice and information on how other young people like them have reached their goals in life.

Form and Style:
The layout of GiveMeMusic will be bright, modern and use clashing colours to appeal to the generation it is targeting at. Contrasting colours and tones are to be used to give it a sense of fun living and a care free feeling, making girls feel more at ease when reading it as they know nothing too serious will arise. The layout will however, be organised as too much information on the front cover and contents page may overwhelm readers and make it look too clustered, making it hard to read. The models will be of the same age as customers, to relate to them, and singing reality stars will often be featured as a main storyline and front cover image, to motivate the aspirers amongst the readers to follow their dream and wishes to succeed. A few of the main cover lines along with page numbers will be made prominent after the main image and storyline of course, so GiveMeMusic readers will appeal to it at first glance and can skip straight to their favourite stories. The things included in the magazine is similar to the main factors of any magazine, such as celebrity features, competitions, advice, music related news, beauty tips and music reviews.

Themes and Typical features:
The mode of address for GiveMeMusic will be colloquial in order to appeal to the younger audience, as if it is too formal the readers will feel bored reading it. The issues will be focused on mostly girls of around the same age as they are relatable. There will also be a big focus on real life stories and advice to aid the teenage readers in their own lives. The front covers are likely to be based on female celebrities or models, but will also contain a lot of male celebrity posters, features and interviews as this obviously has a large appeal amoung teenage girls. Another thing popular with this generation is fashion and beauty so, like in any typical teen magazine, numerous pages will cover features centered arouond these topics, including tips and highstreet shop bargains. GiveMeMusic aspires to keep up to date on the latest celebrity gossip and music news in order to keep the audience interested, to avoid a decrease in readership figures.

Potential Advertisers:
A large range of famous brand names will be regualrly advertised in the issues of GiveMeMusic, especially those related fashion and music as that is the style of magazine and the main things the audience is interested in. Affordable brands such as H&M, apple,  Primark, HMV, Monsoon, New Look, UGGS, Benefit, Rimmel and so on.

Editorial Team
Because the target market for the magazine is young, aspiring teenagers, the editorial team of GiveMeMusic will be made up of the majority of females but also some males to bring a fresh look on things and give advice on boys in the advice section where readers write in with their everyday problems. The editorial team will be experienced in their field, to give the most effective features.
