TEXTUAL ANALYSIS

 CONTENTS PAGE ANALYSIS
1) NME
The layout for this contents page is very casual and playful, so you can tell it's directed at a young audience. There aren't many colours; the only colours that are used are in the pictures. Sans-serif is the font used for the main heading and it's a plain black, so the it is clear that the audience, even though are young, aren't too young as the font and colours aren't too immature. The main stories are shown with pictures of different sizes, with a lot of them being celebrities which appeals to people of that generation. The page numbers are clearly shown and even though the page is slightly disorganised, it is clear to see what stories are where due to sections. Readers are reminded of Christmas with a small red box in the bottom right hand side, encouraging them to subscribe for the perfect Christmas gift. Because it's a bright red colour, and the brightest part of the page, readers' eyes immediately focus on it, giving them an idea for Christmas presents.

2) Record Collector
The contents page for Record Collector is more organised in its layout compared to NME's contents page, as it is set out in a list style. It is easy to differentiate sections with the three headers: 'features' 'regulars' and 'reviews'. The main colour scheme, like the front cover, is red and white with some black included. This carries on the Christmas style with the colour schemes. The font is again, very basic, with the main heading having a similar font to the NME one. This is because the magazine is targeted at an older generation so the mode of address is likely to be more formal and not as casual. Similar to NME, there are pictures of the cover stories, but these are positioned at the right hand side of the page, in a more organised layout. The images are relatively basic, with not a lot of colour. The main colour, red is used to direct the reader's eyes directly at the pages and sections, so it's clear for them to find certain features.
